QUOR Album “Human Paradigm – Deluxe Edition” Newly Released On September 10th
QUOR is a band hailing from San Diego that blurs the lines of rock, punk, and metal into something quite unique. This three piece band consists of guitarist/ vocalist Brian Corn, bassist/vocalist Doug Smith, and drummer John Michael. What this trio has created is a wall of sound that is unusual for a three piece.
The band founded in 2011 with the original name “We Are Going To Be Awesome” which was eventually changed to QUOR after vocalist Corn saw a giant LIQUOR store sign glowing in the distance while driving down the PCH on a foggy night. Brian had this to say about it, “The L and I were out and the sign read QUOR. I had to stop and photograph the sign. The band name was changed to QUOR as we wanted a simple unique name. The name QUOR poked at the current state of rock labeling everything into ‘core’ genre’s (hardcore, mathcore, metalcore, etc etc.) and we also avoided the trends in band naming that make every band sound the same.”
In honor of the original band name, QUOR’s 2013 debut EP was titled “We Are Going To Be Awesome”. In 2014, QUOR’s fan base grew as they supported two multi-state tours reaching literally from one end of the country to the other. The band also reached abroad with successful acoustic “folk edge” tours through both Europe and Japan. In fall of 2015, QUOR has ushered in a full band tour of Europe.
On September 10th, Quor released an album entitled “Human Paradigm – Deluxe Edition”. The deluxe edition is a 9 track LP combining two EP’s to maintain the integrity of the works as a whole. One of those EP’s is the debut ‘“We Are Going To Be Awesome” which was four songs.
Now for the album” Human Paradigm”, the first five tracks are the new material starting with the aggressive “The Silence and The Spark”. “When The Gods Speak” is a thunderous vocal driven metal anthem. The title track “Human Paradigm” is a dreamlike track that mixes guitar runs and vocalization that works in unison to paint a wonderfully audible picture. The groove in the song “The Reverent” is one of those songs that will make a head banger out of anyone.
The tracks that were off the 2013 Ep have a different feel than the newer material. Songs like “Watching You” and “The Fragile Break” are more raw yet show the dynamic range of the band. It also shows how much the bands has grown in two years. Although the song was from their debut recordings, I really like the instrumental intro to “Paradise” because it is completely unique even to their newer music. All in all, if you want adrenaline filled music…QUOR is that band.
