COUNTRY SONGSTRESS MADELINE MERLO RELEASES TRIO OF TUNES, INCLUDING SINGLE “KISS KISS”
Open Road Artist Treats Fans To New Music Post-“Songland” Win
Country up-and-comer Madeline Merlo released a trio of new tunes today, including “If You Never Broke My Heart,” “It Didn’t,” and Canadian country radio single “Kiss Kiss.” Produced by GRAMMY® Award-nominated Jeff Pardo (“Kiss Kiss” and “It Didn’t”) and Brad Hill (“If You Never Broke My Heart”), all three songs were co-written by Merlo, along with Pardo and Allison Veltz Cruz (“Kiss Kiss”), Pardo and Jason Blaine (“It Didn’t”) and Marla Morris and Grant Vogel (“If You Never Broke My Heart”).

“These three songs complete the heartbreak circle story I’m trying to tell. They are products of my journey over these last couple years writing songs, losing love and learning about life here in Nashville,” said Merlo of the new music. “I think they are examples of the multitude of emotions you experience going through heartbreak and ending up on the other side: from reckless behavior, to perspective shifts, to closure.”
The Canadian native kicked off her U.S. career in a big way last week, winning the season premiere of the hit NBC show “Songland” – during which 7-time GRAMMY® Award-winning group Lady Antebellum chose to record and release Merlo’s “Champagne Night.” The “upbeat, party anthem” (MusicRow), which Sounds Like Nashville said “…feels perfectly suited for a quarantined summer,” quickly topped both the ‘all genre’ and ‘country’ iTunes charts, prompting the BMLG act to release it as a single to country radio. All three members, along with 3-time GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter Shane McAnally, surprised Merlo with the news via a Zoom call on Monday (4/20).
“Songland was one of the most incredible and inspiring experiences,” said Merlo of her time on the show. “The knowledge I obtained throughout is invaluable, and the opportunity to work with such seasoned and decorated songwriters is something I won’t ever forget. As a young songwriter in this business, I felt so validated and honored by this experience. Lady Antebellum was so kind and gracious to me, and it was incredibly cool to be able to pitch a song to a band that I admire so much. I made lifelong friends, grew as a writer all while getting to share my vocals and songwriting abilities on network television.”
As an artist, Merlo’s cool, coastal sound – a reflection of her Vancouver upbringing – bridges the perfect pop-country gap. Prior to today’s releases, Merlo had a series of successful releases in Canada – including debut “Sinking Like A Stone,” “War Paint,” “Whatcha Wanna Do About It,” “Neon Love,” and her most recent Canadian country radio Top 10 “Dear Me.”
