Bringing 80’s Power Pop to the Modern Age

Bobby Danger has released numerous EPs and singles in his native Australia and have reached the shores of the US and into the hands of C.O.A.R. Radio. We talked with Bobby Danger to find out more about the artist, where his love of 80’s power pop came from, and what’s going on with him presently.

*

How did you get started in music and at what point did you start writing your own material?

*

It all started at school with friends and then continued into the pub scene when i got old enough playing cover songs. Later on I joined an original band as bass player. We toured cities like Adelaide, Melbourne, and regional Victoria. I had no writing input into the songs and after a while, the songs stopped resonating with me so I felt it was my time to write my own and be in control of my own destiny.

*

You have a very cool 80’s power pop vibe with your music, what inspired you to write in that genre?

*

I think what i was into as a kid has subconsciously laid the foundation to my music. The catchy hooks and melodies of 70s, 80s powerpop certainly figure heavily in my music collection.

*

How did Bobby Danger originate?

*

Some things should be left to your imagination.

*

Haha… fair enough. Is Bobby Danger considered a solo artist or the front man of a band?

*

*

currently in solo project mode.

*

Do you prefer performing live or recording in the studio? And why?

*

In the past i have played festivals and events but currently i really want to immerse myself into writing and recording. I find that so hard to do when i’m rehearsing for shows or preforming. I love the whole recording process, the studio comradery, and creativity of song writing that it all takes up a lot of my time.

*

To date, you’ve released 1 album, 3 ep’s, and 3 singles. What do you have in the works now?

*

In October, I will be back in the studio to start work on 2 new tracks, i’m not sure if they will be singles or part of an EP yet. I just love being in the studio. I can forget about whatever is happening outside the door and immerse myself in something i love doing.

*

There are pros & cons in being in the music industry wherever you are. How easier or difficult is it for you being based in Australia?

*

I’ve found that no matter where you live, musicians all have the same problems to deal with. Some maybe in a bigger scale but essentially the same. Venues, payments, band member problems, sales etc. But on the positive side, there are more opportunities for original music, online sales, recording advancements, independent radio, to name a few. Negatives cant exist without positives, so lets focus on the positives.

*

Any shows or tour dates you would like to share with us?

*

At the moment all my effort and focus is going towards my upcoming recording sessions. I am hoping to get back to the USA in 2018 and catch up with Ryan from my Illinois based record label Independent Ears and hook up with some rostered artists.

*

We enjoy our guest to answer our “Fill in the blanks” every now and then. Here we go……

I would never… say never.

*

I’m trying to quit… buying guitars . I’m trying to quit.

*

I always make sure I… turn my phone off at night.

*

My biggest fear is… making a coffee and finding out there is no milk left.

*

I never go any place without my… my pants on.

*

And everyone should have… Ace Frehley’s 78′ solo album!
