LIVE NATION PRESENTS: MARILYN MANSON
LIVE AT THE SHORELINE AMPHITHEATRE IN MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA ON 9/3/24
It’s been nearly six years since Marilyn Manson has toured Northern California. This time around he makes his stop at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Ca as part of the Five Finger Death Punch tour. I’ve seen some of the different stage personas that Manson has brilliantly portrayed on tour through the decades and the version of Manson now on tour is exactly what I was hoping for.
Marilyn Manson is now lean, mean, back to being gothic in appearance, confident on stage, and vocally sounds excellent. His stage persona looks more like the “The Golden Age of Grotesque: era. The previous tour when last seen was with Rob Zombie as part of the ‘Twins of Evil: The Second Coming’ tour. At that time he was in a suit, very polished, and more restrained onstage, a substantial difference in intensity on stage as well.
Manson has also changed most of his band’s line up this time around. Tyler Bates is still on guitar but now with the addition of ‘as Manson put it’ the feral Reba Myers from Agent Orange on guitar as well. Bassist Juan Alderete did not return to the group after having a traumatic brain injury back in 2020. In his place on bass is Matthew Montgomery a.k.a. Piggy D. formerly of Rob Zombie. Drummer Gil Sharone is the man behind the drum kit on this tour.
The mood for the night was all classic Manson. His stage lighting wasn’t over the top. There were several stage accents of his lit version of the upside down cross, it was a more stripped down stage show with the highlight being the band and music itself.
Imagine Manson belting out songs like “Angel with The Scabbed Wings”, “This Is the New Shit”, and “Say10” on level 11 because that’s what we got. His voice was better than ever and the band was murdering the evening. Manson was proving that he is still a Rock n’ Roll Star.
There are certain songs you expect to be part of the performance like “Dope Show” and “The Beautiful People” and we were treated to them. He did not disappoint as he played “Tourniquet”, “mOBSENE”, “The Love Song”, and his rendition of the Eurythmics’ cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These).
It would have been nice to hear him play his latest track “Raise the Red Flag” live but instead it was the prerecorded outro as he left the stage. All in all you couldn’t have asked for a better show from Marilyn Manson. The best way to put his performance into one sentence it would be….”The Pale Emperor is Back!!
