MARSHALL + FENDER PRESENTS: EXPERIENCE HENDRIX
LIVE AT THE SMITH CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
IN LAS VEGAS, NV ON 9/27/24
The Experience Hendrix Tour 2024 made a memorable stop in Las Vegas at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The non-stop, three-hour tribute to Jimi Hendrix, featuring guitar legends both old and new, kept the audience fully engaged. The performance was accompanied by a constant display of iconic photos of Hendrix on a large screen, adding a nostalgic touch to the night.
Headlining the evening were Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Zakk Wylde, and Eric Johnson, with special appearances from Robby Krieger of The Doors, blues legend Taj Mahal, and Grammy nominated Samantha Fish. As the only female performer of the night, Fish brought her refined blues style and stage presence, becoming one of the show’s standout acts. The diverse lineup also included guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan, newcomer Ayron Jones, Mato Nanji, and Calvin Cooke & Chuck Campbell from The Slide Brothers.
The show’s rhythm section featured Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Chris Layton, drummer of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Double Trouble, alongside bassist Kevin McCormick. Both musicians currently tour with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and played throughout the night, providing a solid foundation for the other performers. Vocal duties were shared by Noah Hunt, Dylan Triplett, and Henri Smith, who also served as the evening’s emcee.
One of the show’s most memorable moments came from Zakk Wylde, who wowed the crowd with his intense guitar work while marching through the aisles. Wylde is best known as the longtime guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and frontman of Black Label Society, Wylde delivered fierce renditions of Hendrix classics like “Purple Haze,” “Little Wing,” and “Manic Depression.”
Another highlight was the trio performance of Samantha Fish, Taj Mahal, and Robby Krieger. Together, they played powerful versions of “Fire,” “Angel,” and an exceptional take on “Catfish Blues,” blending their individual styles to create something truly special.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd closed out the night with an impressive set, featuring standout covers of “Voodoo Child,” “Gypsy Eyes,” and “Come On.” Noah Hunt’s powerful vocals added an extra layer of intensity to Shepherd’s guitar mastery, making for an unforgettable conclusion to an evening dedicated to the music of Jimi Hendrix.
