Feeding The Machine

*

Nickelback is a successful commercial rock band with several hits and have proven their longevity in the music industry. Unfortunately, people either love them or love to hate them. I personally love the band. With Nickelback touring to promote their latest album ‘Feed The Machine’, the band played at the Shoreline Amphitheatre with support acts Daughtry and Shaman’s Harvest.

I was excited to go to this show, as I have been wanting to see Nickelback perform live for quite some time. The Amphitheatre was packed with Nickelback fans and Nickelback came to kick some ass. That’s exactly what happened as the band hit the stage to play ‘Feed The Machine’. Their stage was themed with an industrial look and lighting to match their latest album cover. Anyone who is familiar with Nickelback knows that vocalist/guitarist Chad Kroeger is the face of the band. I say this because with tonight’s performance, the rest of the members proved that this band is not just one person. Bassist Mike Kroeger and drummer Daniel Adair held down the rhythm section like the total pros they are. The big surprise was guitarist Ryan Peake. His guitar playing was incredible tonight as well as his vocals. He has the talent to be a solo artist but I’m glad that he is such an integral part of Nickelback.

The band played hit after hit from “Photograph”, “Lullaby” to “Someday” and “Something In Your Mouth”. The night was filled with hard hitting rock and roll as well as a blend of melodic ballads which made for a great night a partiers raising their glasses to the stage and lots of dancing (myself included). A few of the high points of the evening we when Ryan Peake had his family members join the band on stage to sing “Rockstar”. I say this because one of them was drunk and was a comedic spectacle on stage in the best of ways. Completely entertaining! Another was when the band brought out Chris Daughtry to share the vocals on “Savin’ Me”. The last was the complete crowd singalong to the Eagle’s “Hotel California”.

As the night came to a close, the band encored with my favorite song of theirs “Gotta Be Some- body”. They followed that up with “Burn It to The Ground” which is exactly what Nickelback did to the Shoreline Amphitheatre. This was one of the best shows I’ve seen this year and I look forward to seeing them live again.
